On to Hertfordshire...
Again Trevor’s job moved us on. In April 1980 we moved to Hitchin in Hertfordshire.
My first job ‘down south’ was with Pegasus Motor Policies in the City of London. I worked in the claims department from May 1980 to February 1981. There were lots of great people there. Mr Harris was the boss. My first section leader was Nigel Underwood. Were you there? If so, you know what to do!
Later (’81 to ’84), I was lucky enough to get a job nearer home. I worked for Federated Insurance on St Georges’ Way, Stevenage. They later became Allstate Insurance, and finally Independent Insurance (although they are no longer in Stevenage). My boss was David North. Other people in the claims department were Alan Lewis, Tricia Howard, Tricia’s sister Becky Howard, Becky’s friend Tina, Shirley Costello, Shirley’s sister Maria Costello, Dorreen Anglum, Pauline Hubble, Sandra Collantonio, Sandra’s brother Mark Collantonio, Sue Lee, Helen Arkwright, Eric Walton, Andrew Jordan, Geoff Strong, David (‘McTavish’) Fife, Stella Drew, and Janice (?). It was at Allstate that I met Liz Morley from the underwriting section, with whom I am still in touch.
Finally, I was made redundant, but quickly found another job with Minster Insurance at Barnet. I was there for eight months until I found something else nearer home.
In September 1985 I started work for A.G.L. Associates in Stevenage Old Town. Tony Harris, Annie Foster, Karen Lloyd, Sue Harris, Kathleen Harris and Janice (?) comprised the rest of the staff at that time. Subsequently, various others have come (and some have gone.) Names that come to mind are Donna Beaver, Nerina, and Mandy. In 1992 A.G.L. Associates became part of the Hill House Hammond group.
